Working Principle
Z84C9008ASC is a 8-bit microcontroller with a single 16-bit central processing unit (CPU). It is a Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) architecture and thus, it operates in a single-instruction mode. This allows it to execute instructions at high speeds, even though it uses 8-bit registers for data storage, program counter and other operations. The CPU of Z84C9008ASC has five main modules, which are Bus Interface Unit (BIU),Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU),Program Control Unit (PCU),Instruction Decoder Unit (IDU) andSystem Control Unit (SCU).
The main function of the BIU is to control the external memory accesses and instructions fetches. It provides the memory addresses to the PCU and fetches instructions from the external memory. The ALU is the main arithmetic and logic unit, which performs basic arithmetic and logic operations such as addition, subtraction, comparison and logical operations. The PCU is responsible for program control, program sequencing and status flags setting. It controls the program flow of a program by executing instructions one after the other. The IDU decodes and executes instructions, while the SCU ensures that external devices are operating within the specified parameters.
The Z84C9008ASC also offers a wide range of peripherals for controlling various external devices. These include UART for serial communication, I2C for two-wire communication, SPI for four-wire communication, and GPIO for creating digital I/O signals.
