<p>TVS - Diodes provide transient protection from high-voltage electrical events such as lightning strikes, electrostatic discharges, or other phenomena that can cause voltage to spike above its rated level. The SAC15-TP is a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) that has been designed to protect sensitive electronic components from over-voltage transients. It is capable of withstanding up to 15kV of electrical stress.</p><p>The SAC15-TP is made up of two parallel-connected silicon avalanche breakdown diodes. Each of these diodes has a breakdown voltage (clamping voltage) of approximately 7.5kV. Both connected in series create a single element that offers a breakdown voltage of approximate 15kV, allowing the device to withstand transients up to 15kV. When the device is presented with a transient above 7.5kV, the voltage rise across the diode is limited or “clamped” by the combined current limiting and voltage clamping action of the two diodes.</p><p>The device is available in common configurations such as the EME, including SOT23, SMA, DO-41, and SMD packages. It provides low capacitance, low leakage, and excellent stability against ambient temperature variation. Additionally, it can handle high repetitive and non-repetitive transient events.</p><p>The SAC15-TP devices are mainly used for protection of sensitive electronic components from over-voltage transients in applications such as motor control systems, industrial and building automation, consumer electronics, power supplies, and automotive.</p><p>In terms of working principle, the SAC15-TP devices behave like a pair of Zener diodes in series. When the transient voltage reaches the breakdown voltage of 7.5kV, which is the rating of one of the diodes, they both will start to conduct. As the voltage passes through the two diodes in series, the current is limited and the voltage across the diodes is clamped at 7.5kV, allowing them to protect the sensitive components from over-voltage transients up to 15kV.</p> <p>In conclusion, the SAC15-TP is a two-element Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) that is designed for the protection of sensitive electronic components from over-voltage transients. It provides high surge current and clamping capability, while its low capacitance and low leakage make it well-suited for a variety of applications.
