The Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode is a form of voltage protection device that is designed to protect circuits against unwanted voltage transients, also known as electrical surges.

MXUPT28 is an ultra low-capacitance Transient Voltage Suppressor and is commonly used to protect electronic circuits from excessive transients. The device offers superior ESD protection compared to traditional TVS diodes with comparable capacitance characteristics. It is also designed to protect against high-amplitude, short duration transients.

Application Field & Working Principle

The MXUPT28 is suitable for protecting a wide range of electronic components. It is ideal for protecting high-speed bus interfaces, USB ports, audio inputs, digital camera ports and communication ports from electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other high-amplitude, short duration over-voltage transients. The device is very effective in automotive applications such as automotive IP, Cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, allowing it to protect devices from multiplexing, short circuits and over-voltage transients

The two important components of the MXUPT28 are an ultra low capacitance Polycarbonate Siloxane TVS diode and a precise Zener diode, which is designed to operate at the highest standards. The Polycarbonate Siloxane diode acts as a clamp, which absorbs overvoltage spikes and prevents them from causing damage to the electrical circuit. The Zener diode acts as a breakdown trigger, allowing the current to flow and clamping the voltage to a safe limit.
