The porcelain height of the fuse must be at least 1 inch (25.4mm) to provide protection from exposure to excessive heat.When an excessive current is flowing, energy is constantly produced by the resistance of the wire and it is dissipated as heat in the core of the fuse element. Due to this heat generation, the temperature within the fuse rises. The rate of heat generation depends upon the current flowing through the element and the resistance of the wire. As soon as the temperature of the fuse element reaches the melting temperature of the silver, the fuse link melts and the circuit is opened. This helps to protect the circuit from possible damage due to increased current flow.The 0278.005V fuse also has a standard mode of action to ensure that the circuit is quickly opened when the current exceeds the rated value. This ensures that the fuse is able to act as soon as possible. In normal operation, the 0278.005V will open in 10.8 milliseconds and will remain open for more than 200 milliseconds before a circuit can be re-energized again.The construction of the 0278.005V fuse is designed in such a way that it allows the fuse element to be easily replaced and offers a reliable operation at a low cost.
