0453.375NR application field and working principle
The 0453.375NR is a Type NR twin element time-delay fuse of the Edison family of fuse products made by Edison Fuse Industries. It is intended for branch-circuit industrial applications with an interrupting rating of 10,000 amps RMS symmetrical, at 500 volts AC. The fuse is a self-certified Class H fuse with full acceptance towards UL, CSA and IEC standards. It has UL and CSA recognition for Class H applications at 100,000 amperes and is recognized as an IEC time-delay class As so current-limiting fuse at the same level of current.
This fuse is used in light commercial and industrial applications and is useful in protecting against overload, short circuit, or ground fault conditions. It offers a higher level of protection than a conventional fuse and is generally designed to operate at a range of current ratings. Typical applications include over-load protection and short-circuit protection in power distribution systems, equipment control cabinets, motors, transformers, and motor control centers. It is suitable for use in all types of air-conditioning/refrigeration, and other HVAC equipment.
The 0453.375NR time-delay fuse works by utilizing a pair of two-element electrodes which closely match the impedance of the current-carrying element in the circuit, and provide a faster response to short circuit than normal fuses. The active element is a piece of metal wire that is heated by the current flowing through it. When current rises above the rated value, the heated metal will expand and open the contact, de-energizing the circuit. This creates a safety gap between the two electrodes and the fuse will open.
Using this principle, the 0453.375NR fuse provides an accurate, current-sensitive protection which limits the level of energy that can be let through. It helps to reduce the effect of inrush current on the circuit, with the added advantage of faster tripping times in high current environments. It also prevents nuisance tripping due to momentary voltage drops or brief overload conditions. Additionally, the 0453.375NR includes an instant reaction on short-circuit conditions, ensuring the circuit breaker will interrupt the current before any damage to equipment can occur.
The 0453.375NR is designed for industrial and commercial applications where an economical fuse solution with high inrush and short-circuit protection is required. It is suitable for most types of transformers, motors, switchgears, and motor control centers, and is also available in a UL listed, Class J version. This patented design is one of the most popular in a constructed range of time-delayed industrial fuses, and is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, from small control panels to large circuit protection systems.
