Working Principle

The working principle of a D-Sub connector involves the contact of two or more wires or pins at the same time. The electric connection between the pins is maintained when the force of the spring allows the contact to remain in its mating position. The force on the pins is increased when higher voltage is applied, thus providing a stable connection.

The mechanism used to secure the connection, during the mating process, contains several components that work together to achieve the desired connection. These include: a shell, connectors, a contact spring, the connector halves and a latching mechanism. The shell houses the contact springs, which make and break the connection. The pins or sockets of the contact springs fit into the connector halves, which are secured using the latching mechanism.

The outer shell of the connector is designed to protect the contact springs from contaminants, such as moisture, dust, and oil. When the connector halves are mated, the contact springs are compressed together and the PINs are in contact, forming an electrical connection. The latching mechanism ensures that the connection stays secured and provides high continuity and reliability.
