Rocker Switches
Rocker Switches, also known as flip switches, are the most common type of switch used in electrical control networks and are an ubiquitous part of the electrical grid. These switches are used to allow control of alternating current components such as motors, generators, heating elements and lamps. Rocker switches are used in a host of applications, from controlling appliances on an industrial scale to managing home entertainment systems. The rocker switch first made its appearance in the early 20th century as part of the automobile industry. The design was based on a two-piece switch, originally used in railway signal systems, which operated a signal beam by means of a toggle mechanism. The switch was composed of a pair of switch “fingers”, which were connected on a base of timber and allowed a control circuit to function. As their popularity and usage grew, this basic design was modified and improved to meet the needs and requirements of the automotive, industrial and domestic markets. Today, the rocker switch is one of the most reliable and commonly used switches available. Manufacturers produce an enormous variety of rocker switches in a number of sizes, shapes and colors as well as with a range of features. The main elements of the rocker switch are the two pieces, or “fingers”, which move against a flat base. These fingers provide the movement that triggers a switch’s condition change and allow for sorting, grouping and connecting a set of electrical connections. The switches typically contain two or four terminals, each designated for a separate pole and/or ground pin. The switch is also able to support some level of lockable latches for enhanced safety or to guard against accidental operation. The most common types of rocker switches are single pole, double pole and triple pole. Single pole switches allow current to travel from the switch to one terminal set, while double and triple pole switches can provide a connection to two or three sets of terminals respectively. In this way, rocker switches are able to control multiple circuits with a single flip of the switch, making them the most efficient type of switch available. Rocker switches may also be split into “on-off” and “momentary” switches. On-off switches remain in their chosen state until the switch is again switched and they typically feature an integrated text window which provides descriptive data of the switch’s state. Momentary switches return to their default position when released and are normally used for emergency purposes or to control a variety of mechanical operations where instant on-off control is required. Rocker switches are also the most popular choice for controlling household and office appliances, such as lights and fans. These switches are extremely reliable, easy to use and cost-efficient. In addition, due to their durability and compact size, they can be mounted virtually anywher and provide a reliable electrical connection for a wide range of devices. In summary, rocker switches are an essential part of any electrical control network and continue to be the most popular choice for home and office applications. Thanks to their versatility, they provide a safe, easy and cost-efficient way of controlling motors, generators, heating elements and lamps, as well as providing an emergency switch for a variety of miscellaneous mechanical operations. The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
