D-Sub Connectors

The D-Sub connector is a family of versatile electrical connectors developed by the Deutsch company in the 1950s. They are commonly used in the fields of automation, industrial control, telecommunications, and computing systems. The family includes sub-miniature, small-form factor, and large-form factor connectors, as well as varieties with polarization and keyed mating.

1–1757825-2 Application Field and Working Principle

The 1–1757825-2 is a small-form-factor, right-angle mounting connector that is well suited to high density applications. This type of D-Sub connector uses a rear-platform mating system for fast, repeated, and secure terminations. It is typically used in data, video, and audio signal transmission, and is especially suitable for device and system interconnectivity.

The 1–1757825–2 is a two-piece design, consisting of a hood and a connector shell. The hood is made from either plastics or metals, while the connector body and its pins are made from metals. The hood is designed with an integral polarization and latching system to ensure proper mating orientation. A cable strain relief attaches to the hood, and a check-ring or lug is inserted into the back of the hood for polarization.

The connector body is secured to the PCB with screws and retains the contact pins. The pin inserts are manufactured from brass and they feature stamped-and-formed pre-psychotic contacts for solderless termination. The retaining screws are located on the back of the connector and feature a small slot for tool insertion and a locking position for reliable contact retention.

When mated, the padrails or “fingers” on the inside of the connector shell come into contact with the lugs or “fingers” of the hood. This helps with polarization and ensures that the connector is correctly oriented. This contact provides electrical shielding which reduces noise. The integrated strain relief system also ensures that the wires in the cable are securely held in place and will not pull or come out from the connector.
