1.5KE400A is a series of bi-directional TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes, specifically designed for protection of data and signal lines. It is used for applications where transient voltage is expected, but the clamping protection must be provided in both directions with an extremely low capacitance. The 1.5KE400A is available in a 6-pin DO-213AB package with general purpose, surface mount, type design. The diode has an operating temperature range from -55 to 125 degrees Celsius. In addition to its superior capability to suppress transient voltages, the 1.5KE400A offers excellent performance levels in terms of its low leakage current, high frequency, and surge power boost capability.

The 1.5KE400A series diode is used to guard against undesired surge voltages. It works by using its own internal capacitance to divert majority of the surge energy away from the load, thus protecting the circuit from damage. The TVS diode has a finite energy capacity, which it can absorb during a transient surge event. After the event, the diode can recover quickly, allowing the circuit to resume normal operations.The diode operates in a bi-directional mode and is designed to absorb positive or negative transient pulses. The actual working principle of the 1.5KE400A is quite simple. This causes a huge current flow in the diode resulting in the clamping of the transient voltage. The current then decreases as the voltage drops to the diodes clamp voltage and the protection is then provided. The diode then rapidly recovers to its quiescent state, or the state at which the diode was before the surge occurred.
