Display Modules - LCD, OLED, Graphic
Display modules are devices which are used to display information. The choice of module that is most appropriate for a particular design depends upon a number of factors, including cost, size, and three main areas of technology - LCD, OLED and graphic displays. Each of these technologies has its own advantages and disadvantages, which will be discussed in the following sections.LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Modules
A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a type of flat panel display technology which creates an image and controls the amount of light passing through the liquid crystal molecules. LCD modules typically are made up of a thin layer of liquid crystal material sandwiched between two glass plates or other transparent substrates. By passing an electric current through the liquid crystal, the molecules are able to be realigned and the amount of light which is allowed to pass through them can be controlled, thus creating an image.The main advantages of LCD modules are their low power consumption and high contrast ratios, which make them suitable for applications with limited energy sources. Additionally, they are relatively inexpensive to manufacture and can come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. On the other hand, the image contrast between light and dark is not as great as other technologies, and they are prone to image burn-in.OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) Modules
Organic light emitting diode (OLED) display modules are a type of light-emitting diode (LED) display which use an organic film in lieu of the traditional LED substrate. In some cases, OLED displays can be monochrome, but in other cases the OLED film can be made up of several different layers of organic material which can be used to produce full-color displays.The main benefit of OLED modules is that they can produce high contrast, full-color images which have better image quality than LCD displays. Additionally, OLED displays are typically thinner than LCDs and draw significantly less power. The chief drawback of OLED displays is that they are still relatively expensive to produce, and the organic materials used in their construction have a limited lifespan.Graphic Module Displays
Graphic module displays are a type of display technology which combines both an LCD display module and a dedicated graphic processor. This allows the display to show more complex images than is possible with a standard LCD display. The displays are also capable of more efficient color management, meaning that the colors displayed on the screen will be more accurately reproduced.Graphic module displays are typically more expensive than LCDs and OLEDs, but they make up for it in image quality. Additionally, they can display more complex graphics, animations, video and audio. On the downside, the power consumption of these modules is typically higher than other display technologies, and they are not as widely adopted due to their high cost.Conclusion
Despite the advancement in display technologies, each module type has its own advantages and disadvantages. For cost-sensitive applications, an LCD display module may be the most appropriate choice. For applications which need to display high-quality graphics or animations, an OLED or graphic module may be the most suitable.
