The 106990007 evaluation board design allows for a wide range of output power levels for powering different applications. As such, the evaluation board is ideal for powering application fields ranging from general purpose – like computing systems and industrial controllers, to high-power applications such as switching power converters, solar cells and electronic test equipment. The evaluation boards also feature a low output ripple voltage, making it suitable for applications requiring high precision.
The 106990007 evaluation board features a four-stage buck-converter design that is composed of the buck controller, two integrated MOSFETs, high-voltage Schottky Barrier rectifiers and a load-bearing switch-mode transformer. This design allows for high efficiency, up to 95% and low initialization time, around 5 µS (microseconds). The evaluation board is also capable of handling up to 10.5V DC input and the output voltage range is adjustable from 0.2 to 5V. The maximum current provided by the evaluation board is 30A.
According to the AC/DC SMPS evaluation board manual, the evaluation boards work by detecting the change in the AC mains voltage, which triggers a feedback loop in the control circuit that activates the high voltage rectifiers. These rectifiers then convert the AC mains voltage into a low voltage pulsating wave, which is then fed into the integrated MOSFETs. The MOSFETs then convert and shape this pulsed wave into the desired output voltage level. The load bearing transformer then provides a filter to ensure a clean current. The feedback loop at the beginning of the process then checks for any fluctuations in the output voltage and will adjust the operating frequency accordingly.
