An Inductor (also called a coil, choke, or reactor) is a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores energy in the form of a magnetic field. An inductor typically consists of a metallic conductor, such as a wire, wound into a coil. Inductors are very common components in electronics and are found in many electrical and electronic circuits.

11R222C - Application Field and Working Principle

The 11R222C is a high-performance chip-type inductor from the company TDK-Lambda. This inductor is designed for high-current, low-profile applications because of its small size and low height. It is a suitable component for small, automated automotive systems and other electronic products. The options of the 11R222C include 7 different inductance values (1.0μH, 1.2μH, 1.5μH, 2.0μH, 2.2μH, 3.3μH, and 4.7μH) with maximum current rating of 2.2A and maximum DC resistance of 0.22 ohm. The 11R222C inductor allows flexibility in achieving accurate levels of output current.

The working principle of an inductor is based on the property of an electric current, that it creates an electromagnetic field which opposes any changes in the current. When an electric current flows, it creates a magnetic field around it. If a change in the current flow is attempted, an inductor will react by creating a back-emf, or self-induced voltage, that opposes the change.

This can be seen in the equation V = L(dI/dt), where V is the voltage across the inductor, dI/dt is the rate of change of electric current through the inductor, and L is the inductance.
