The 129468-HMC820LP6CE evaluation board and RF kit (EVB-KIT-HMC820) is a complete RF field solution designed to help engineers evaluate and quickly prototype a wide range of wireless systems and mobile communications designs.
The 129468 HMC820LP6CE is a 6-bit, 12-bit, and 24-bit phase shifter and voltage-variable gain amplifier (VVGA) evaluation board. It features fully integrated frequency converter operation that provides an internal radio frequency (RF) sampling system for easy testing of the device under a wide range of temperature and environmental conditions.
The board\'s ultra-low power operation enables the user to perform direct measurements for the amplifier\'s gainadjust, impedance match, and phase shift, without externally powering the amplifier. It also includes digital pin-programming for gain adjustment, temperature control, bias control, and fault management, and incorporates multiple digital control signals.
The 129468-HMC820LP6CE evaluation board and RF kit features a wide supply voltage range of 4.5 V to 30V and a very low dynamic power consumption. With a 3.0 dB noise figure, this evaluation board is an ideal solution for cellular applications. It is also suitable for other RF communication systems which require the highest dynamic rang.
The device works by using Voltage Variable Gain Amplifiers (VVGA) to shift its gain in discrete stages amongst pre-determined dB steps. The internal phase configuration is used to generate and detect signals. This further helps to provide the necessary isolation between the transmitting and the receiving circuits. The gain of the amplifier is a function of the voltage and is adjusted in discrete steps.
The device provides a high level of flexibility in differential signal routing and it has a wide dynamic range ratio of greater than 40 dB, while its frequency range spans from 140 kHz to 32 GHz. It also has an excellent ability to reduce intermodulation products from the blended signals. Its phase accuracy and tracking ability are excellent even at higher frequencies.
The board features an 8-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that allows for programmable gain. The HMC820LP6CE device also supports the use of a high-speed serial host interface that enables the user to test the device\'s performance over multiple frequencies, gain ranges, and temperature ranges. With its small size and low power consumption, the HMC820LP6CE device is ideal for battery-powered and portable mobile devices.
The board includes a built-in RF signal generator and a real-time spectrum analyzer that helps speed up design verification in the lab. The generator and analyzer can be used to evaluate the device\'s performance in the laboratory as well as in the field.
