Tantalum Capacitors
Tantalum capacitors are small electronic components that store electrical charge and are made of tantalum and conductive Ta2O5 (oxide) film. They are widely used for coupling, decoupling and bypassing power electronic circuits and other applications. The main types of tantalum capacitors are solid tantalum capacitors, wet tantalum hot capacitors, tantalum-film capacitors, manganese-nickel alloy capacitors, hybrid-electrolytic capacitors, semipolar tantalum capacitors, modified tantalum capacitors, ceramic capacitors, and conductive plastics capacitors.
In solid tantalum capacitors, tantalum grains are mixed with a binder such as manganese or iron and then sintered to form a body of the capacitor. The electrodes are formed by sputtering or electroforming a metal film. The anodes, cathodes, and dielectrics of the capacitor are formed by anodic oxidation, which can form the desired capacitance value. The wet tantalum hot capacitor has a vacuum-treated tantalum powder cathode, an anodic material electroformed on the tantalum powder, and a glass encapsulated in epoxy resin.
13008-003MESZ Application Field and Working Principle
The 13008-003MESZ is a surface mount, miniature-sized solid tantalum capacitor designed for use in communication, medical, and industrial applications. It has a low-profile design and is capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -55°C to +85°C. This Capacitor also provides a great deal of versatility due to its range of capacitance values, ranging from 22 pF to 3.3 uF.
The 13008-003MESZ capacitor consists of a tantalum grain core and a conductive layer over the core a dielectric material between the electrodes. The dielectric material is made from tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5). This combination creates a thin film capacitor with high capacitance and low series inductance. When an electrical current is applied, a charge builds up on the plates and the electrical energy is stored. The stored electrical energy is proportional to the capacitance of the capacitor.
When used in an electronic circuit, the 13008-003MESZ capacitor provides a low-pass filter that attenuates noise on a power supply, provides decoupling of input and output pins, and helps stabilize the operating voltage of a device. It is also used as a bypass capacitor to reduce transient noise, voltage spikes, and other issues that may affect the reliability and performance of an electronic component.
