Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are a form of electrolytic capacitors. Working Principle

Tantalum capacitors are characterized by their dielectric oxide barrier. This dielectric oxide barrier acts as an insulator between the capacitor’s anode and cathode plates, allowing charge to be stored within the capacitor. The capacitance of the capacitor is determined by the ratio of the surface area of the anode and cathode. As charge is applied to the terminals of the capacitor, an electrostatic field builds up within the dielectric oxide barrier. This electrostatic field is what determines the capacitance of the capacitor and the voltage rating.

When the capacitor is used in a circuit, the amount of charge that flows through it depends on a number of factors. The applied voltage must be greater than the rated voltage of the capacitor in order for it to work correctly. The amount of current that flows through the capacitor also depends on the applied frequency, as higher frequencies allow more charge to be stored in the capacitor. The capacitor also has a limit to the amount of charge it can store, and exceeding this limit can cause the capacitor to fail.
