Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are solid, low-profile, anode-on-anode metal film capacitors wiith high capacitance-to-volume-ratio. The ceramic portion is connected between two metal-to-metal electrodes, creating a structure called "tantalum core construction". The power rating of these capacitors is typically much higher than comparable electrolytic capacitors, allowing for quick and easy installation in applications where space is a constraint, such as in PC boards or integrated circuits.

13008-010KESA Application Field and Working Principle

The 13008-010KESA is a 10kOhm, 1nF, 0.2W tantalum capacitor. It is most common in digital systems for power management and decoupling, as well as in high-speed analog and digital audio applications, such as in signal processing and digital integrated circuits. It is also used as a bypass capacitor in radio frequency circuitry for receiving and transmitting, and in robotics for motor control.

The working principle of a tantalum capacitor is based on the same physics as any other capacitor; capacitance is the ratio of the charge stored on the plates to the voltage applied. When voltage is applied to the plate, charge is stored on the plates and the capacitor stores energy. This energy is discharged when the voltage is removed. The surplus charge on the plates is then removed, and the capacitor can be recharged again.

Apart from its relatively small size, 13008-010KESA has several other advantages over electrolytic capacitors. It has a much higher temperature tolerance, as it can withstand temperatures up to 150°C, while electrolytic capacitors can only stand temperatures up to 105°C. It is also a much more stable internally, as its cycle life is significantly longer with minimal changes in capacitance. Additionally, tantalum capacitors are also insensitive to mechanical shock and vibration.
