Tantalum capacitors, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are uniquely capable of providing high capacitance-to-volume ratios. This makes them ideal for applications in electrical and electronic equipment systems where large amounts of capacitor capacitance must be stored in relatively small devices. As such, tantalum capacitors are used in a wide variety of applications, from consumer electronics to high-precision instrumentation.

The 13008-062MESA is a type of tantalum capacitor specially designed to meet the needs of military-specification applications. Its unique design offers improved performance in high temperature and vibration environments, compared to traditional capacitors. Its construction includes thick metalized oxide and low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) that resists damage to the internal circuit from vibration, shock and vibration.

The 13008-062MESA utilizes a specially designed capacitor core consisting of a sintered tantalum anode and a dielectric layer to produce a high dielectric strength. This dielectric layer helps reduce the risk of short circuit and capacitor failure by providing enhanced resistance to arcing. Additionally, due to its very low equivalent series resistance, the 13008-062MESA is highly efficient in energy storage and output. The superior ESR entry of the 13008-062MESA capacitor makes it ideal for applications where high ripple current of short duration is necessary. It is also used in high-voltage DC application due to its superior specs for the voltage rating.

The working principle of the 13008-062MESA is based on a process known as metal-oxide semiconductor capacitance (MOSC capacitance). The capacitor is filled with an electrolyte, to which a current is applied, creating an electric field around the electrodes. This field of electric charge is used to store energy and, when voltage is applied to the capacitor, this energy is discharged.The electrodes are separated by a thin dielectric layer consisting of a metal oxide, which acts as an insulator and dissipates any energy that is stored on the capacitor. This insulating layer is important, as it prevents the charge carriers from passing through the electrodes and damaging the internal circuit components.The 13008-062MESA offers numerous advantages over traditional tantalum capacitors, such as a lower equivalent series resistance (ESR) and a higher energy discharge rate. It is also capable of supporting higher ripple current than traditional tantalum capacitors, making it suitable for applications that require high peak rate power supply such as railroad, aerospace, military, telecommunications, and medical electronics.
