D-Sub Connectors is a specialized type of computer cables primarily used in commercial applications. These connectors are commonly seen linking up computer components to external peripherals like a keyboard, mouse, or external hard drive. The 15-005703 application field and working principle functions by each of the two connected devices using a similar voltage to transact the data exchange between them.

The design of D-Sub Connectors is based around a metal shell that houses two independent contact systems, separated by a dielectric, which is usually air in form. Each contact system is composed of pins and sockets configured into two rows, on either side of the shell. One pin connection system transmits data and the other corresponds to the receiving end. Since the pins and sockets are configured into their respective rows, each pin corresponds to one socket on the opposite side of the shell.

In terms of installation, D-Sub Connectors are detached from the application device and attached to a connector or receptacle, depending on the application type. At the mating stage of the connection, each pin of the pin system is inserted into its respective socket. The electrical connections between the two contact systems need to be closely aligned to ensure that the data is transferred correctly. This is achieved by the use of a mesh band that wraps around the two contact systems, providing tension that holds them together firmly.

The 15-005703 application field and working principle of D-Sub Connectors can range from high-speed data transfer of up to 10 Gigabit per second, to a capability of withstanding a maximum current of 7.5 milliamps. Depending on its intended application, D-Sub Connectors come in two distinct varieties; high-performance, and moderate-performance. High-performance varieties feature a variety of additional features such as stronger mesh bands, higher current capacity, and optimized electrical connection which enables data transmission up to 60 MHz.

The use of D-Sub Connectors provides a reliable and physically sound link between two devices. As the pins of the connector are securely fastened to their respective contact systems, the connection is said to be “hardened”. This ensures that there is no amount of force or movement that will cause the data connection to be disrupted.

The use of D-Sub Connectors in a variety of commercial applications outweighs its few limitations. It can be used in both internal and external applications, and are available in a wide variety for different types of applications, such as USB, serial and parallel connections. They provide reliable and secure data connections for both high-speed and low data transfers, making them a very versatile type of connector.
