D-Sub Connectors
D-Sub connectors, commonly known as DB connectors, are a type of electrical connector popular in the computer industry, typically seen on the back panel of a PC used to connect peripheral devices such as mice, keyboards, and printers. The connectors are identified by a D-shape, hence the ‘D-sub’ name. The D-sub connectors are available in two common sizes, DB25 and DB9, which refer to the number of pins along either side of the connector. Other sizes are also available but are less commonly used. A DB9 connector usually contains 9 pins, although not all of them are typically used. The majority of applications use the DB9 connector to provide either power and/or communication over one single 3-wire cable. For example, PC mice and keyboards often use the DB9 connector with the power supplied via pins 2 and 5, whilst the communication is managed over the three remaining pins (3, 4 and 6). The DB25 connector is also widely used in the PC world and again, not all of its 25 pins are typically used. Various communications protocols can be supported, such as serial and parallel communications, although it is most commonly used for parallel communications. For this, the majority of the 25 pins are used. One example of a parallel communication protocol is the IEEE 1284 standard, which is used to connect a PC to a printer. The 15-006303 application field and working principle is similar to the DB9 and DB25 connectors, with the primary difference being the configuration of the pins. Whereas the DB9/DB25 connectors provide 9/25 pins located at the side of the connector in a line, the 15-006303 are located on the top of the connector in a hexagonal configuration, comprised of six pins. The total pins available (6) are used in conjunction with the configuration to provide balanced audio signals over the connection, with the different pins providing left input, left output, right input, right output, ground, and shield. This makes the 15-006303 ideal for audio applications where a good quality, reliable connection is required. Overall, the D-sub connectors provide a simple and yet effective means of connecting PCs or transmission of data from one device to another. Utilizing the difference in the configuration of the pins, the same connectors can be used in a variety of ways. The DB9/DB25 connectors are the most common but 15-006303 connectors can be found in audio applications, providing the capability of transferring balanced audio signals. The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
