The 150E2C5.5 fuse is a cost-effective solution for applications that require both overload and short-circuit protection. Its advantageous characteristics are especially useful for applications that need to be resistant to arc blast and have high levels of current ratings. This type of fuse is usually used in systems where larger short-circuit currents are common, and may be used in a variety of industries and applications, including but not limited to motor control centers, feeder circuits, and other industrial control systems.
Working Principle
The 150E2C5.5 fuse features heavy-duty construction to absorb higher-closing short-circuit currents and heavy arcing requirements. When the current through the fuse exceeds its rated amps, the element quickly melts, forming an arc which is extinguished quickly by the powder-filled end caps and the fuse’s “blow-out” element. The fuse then acts as an open-circuit isolator and the circuit is temporarily disconnected, protecting against possible overload or current surge.
The 150E2C5.5 also features a time-delay characteristic; when the current is limited, the fuse does not activate immediately. This delay allows the fuse to absorb higher currents than would be possible if the fuse blew out immediately. Delay times can range from 2 to 30 seconds, depending on the current, which gives the fuse time to protect against damaging short circuits.
