15247 is an automotive diagnostics reader, listed as a type of vehicle scan tool, which helps motorists uncover why their vehicle\'s “check engine” light is illuminated. By inserting the reader into your vehicle\'s diagnostic port (commonly located on the dashboard near the driver\'s door), the built-in software is able to diagnose and report possible errors with the vehicle\'s systems such as the engine, transmission, ABS brakes, emission control system, etc.

Application Field

The 15247 is used to detect and diagnose issues with a variety of systems and engine components in a variety of makes, models, and year vehicles. This automotive scan tool is designed to interface with vehicles from 1996 and forward, although some versions will work on cars from as early as 1981. Many versions will accommodate engine gasoline, diesel, flex fuel, and hybrid engines. Working Principle

An automotive scan tool works similarly to a traditional code reader in that it can display the trouble codes that indicate a problem in the car’s engine system. A traditional code reader just displays the codes and then the user must read the codes to interpret the problem, while a 15247 scan tool can interpret the codes and provide simplified repair solutions. The scan tool also retrieves engine diagnostic codes, associated manufacturer codes and manufacturers’ specific pending codes. The reader can also reset warning lights and service reminders, as well as clear stored permanent codes. Additionally, this scan tool can display live data for an entire engine system, such as fuel system and O2 sensor readings, and displays this data in both graph and table view. This allows users to monitor multiple engine systems and parameters in real-time, and provides the data to quickly and accurately diagnose issues.
