Aluminum – Polymer capacitors (A-P capacitors) are relatively new energy storage devices developed in comparison to its precursor, Electrolytic capacitors. It is a type of polymer capacitor which utilizes conductive polymers as one of its terminal plates, connected to an aluminium foiled plate. A-P capacitors do not use any electrolyte and the insulating layer is constructed through a dry process involving much thinner layers of aluminum foil. It is a very versatile capacitor type, used in a wide range of applications, such as automotive and industrial control systems, electronic circuits, mobile phones, and other portable electronic devices.

16SEPF180M+TSS is a battery-backed memory storage system consists of 16 super-capacitors and special battery back-up logic, which allows short-term power storage. It is capable of supplying up to 180mV at a 50mA current and can support temporary power or back-up power in the event of supply interruption or power failure. Moreover, the system includes an additional protective circuitry that makes the 16SEPF180M+TSS well suited for automotive applications. The A-P capacitor used in the system is a 7 mm by 2 mm rectangular ceramic capacitor with a nominal capacitance of 0.33F and a maximum peak voltage rating of 5.5V.

The working principle of the 16SEPF180M+TSS system is based on the process of charge transfer between the capacitor and a reference battery. The battery acts as a reference voltage, providing a voltage upon which the capacitor is charged. During this process, reaction occurs at the anode and cathode of the capacitor, releasing electrons and ions which transfer across the dielectric. This reaction causes a separation of electric charge, essentially creating a voltage differential energy transfer from the battery to the capacitor.

The 16SEPF180M+TSS system also uses an integrated MSO (memory standby operation) circuit to prevent the supply from becoming completely discharged due to prolonged power-off. It uses the capacitors to store energy which will be used for the purpose of holding charge during a period of absence of power supply. This will then enable the system to be constantly powered even during power outage, allowing the system to remain in its original status and allowing the recall of data at the next power-on.

The A-P capacitor used in the system was chosen due to its high capacitance, high maximum operating temperature, and superior efficiency. The capacitor also has an ultra-low ESR and low leakage current which makes it resistant to temperature changes and allows the system to maintain its capacity even during prolonged periods of inactivity. Furthermore, the capacitor has low self-discharge so that the battery will not be depleted over a period of time.

The 16SEPF180M+TSS system is a perfect example of how A-P capacitors are used in different applications. With its wide range of characteristics, it can be used to provide efficient energy storage for a variety of applications. A-P capacitors offer a variety of advantages which makes them an ideal choice for various situations. They can be used for both extended-term energy storage and rapid delivery of energy when needed.
