The 170E5451 handles more current than other normal fuses with the same size. It has long-term reliability and effective short circuit protection, mainly used as industrial high voltage protection, intended for electrical equipment such as high-power transformer protection, transmission and distribution protection, and other relevant industrial requirements.
In the 170E5451, a separable element joins the current-carrying contact pieces. This element features a high melting point and vaporization pressure which is much higher than the normal melt point of the element and the body. It’s designed with the dual-body structure, where the element and the body form a double frame which results in a cross-in/cross-out overload protection. This structure feature of 170E5451 provides a more current than the traditional fuse.
The 170E5451 working principle is based on the Joule effect which results in a perfect symmetry of temperature. The Joule effect is transferred from the center of the lower part of the fuse towards the two poles. When an overload occurs, this energy is conducted through that and the wire melts and loses its energy in the form of heat along the way. The current gets shut off because the melted fuse can’t conduct it anymore. This cutting-off is done by the 170E5451 in such a way that an irregular overload causes the fuse element to get heated quickly and reaches its insulation rating point where it will melt and shuts off the current.
The performance of the 170E5451 is one of the most important features as the design implementation is very reliable and it operates as designed. Moreover, the 170E5451 works in two different stages, first when the heat of the element increases due to an overload and then when the fuse element is heated more due to the continued increase of the current and then the fuse melts. This increases the cut-off performance of the 170E5451.
Another important feature of the 170E5451 is the high voltage rating which allows it to handle high voltage and high current applications. The 170E5451 is very resistant to corrosion which contributes to the long service life and further adds to its reliability.
