D-Sub Connectors
D-Sub connectors, which are also named after their "D" shape, have been used extensively for many years in various computers and electronic applications. The D-Sub family is composed of connectors that use rectangular standard connectors and terminal blocks. The term D-Sub is commonly used to refer to a type of rectangular and common I/O (input/output) connector, with the “D” in its name referring to its “D”-shaped metal shell. These connectors are mainly used in computers and electronic applications to provide a better connection with their outside environment.
The typical structure of a D-sub is composed of a die cast metal shell, contact assembly, dielectric insulation, and other materials such as screws or spacers. The contact arrangement of a D-Sub is composed of two rows of pins that make up the sides of the “D” shape. Each side of the “D” is also known as an “insulated bulkhead”. The contact assemblies within the connector are usually composed of stamped and formed metal. Other contact assemblies such as IDC (insulation-displacement connection), lanced terminal blocks, or formed contacts with wire wrap connections are also available.
Regarding the technical characteristics of this type of connector, D-Sub connectors feature efficient power and signal transmission, tight tolerance and greater reliability. They are generally used in the high frequency range up to 6GHz and in applications requiring mating at speeds up to 400Mbps. Furthermore, they are designed for signal intensity and required shielding, as well as to prevent the internal entrapment of dirt and maintain continuity.
The working principle of a D-Sub connector is based on its electrical connectivity. Generally, when two mated connectors are plugged in, the pins bridge the gap between the two and cause an electrical contact. This creates an electrical connection between the circuit elements. When two mated D-Sub connectors are unplugged, the contacts separate and the resulting connection is broken.
A wide range of options is available in the D-Sub family, including regular and high-density connectors, as well as rectangular and circular designs. Some specific connector series are available in different sizes, ranging from the smaller 2-contact D-Sub connectors to much larger 246-contact D-Sub connectors, and in different styles including right angle, top mount, mid mount, end mount, vertical, horizontal, shielded, and threaded styles. This allows the customer to select the proper D-Sub connector to match the application requirements.
The 1731090212 connector belongs to the regular and high-density D-Sub family. It is a DB25 connector used in a variety of data and computer applications, including PC connectivity, video, printer markers, geographical information systems, and audio. It is a reliable and highly cost-effective interconnect solution for data and low-frequency power applications. Its unique design and robust construction ensure a high level of reliability and performance, thus making it one of the most popular data connectors in today\'s market.
