The LED Dot Matrix (LMDM) is a type of display module that allows the user to create a stunning array of commonly used graphical patterns with minimal gear and setup time. The matrix consists of tiny outlines of the underlying letterform or shape rendered into an array of dots or circles that display on the physical panel or LCD screen. Each dot matrix module contains an inner microcontroller with a memory buffer that stores the current values of the pixels and the row and column position of each dot.
