The Zener diode 1N4114 belongs to a family of semiconductor electronic components that share the same basic properties of allowing electric current to flow in only one direction, collecting or blocking power along that path. Zener single diodes are mainly used in voltage regulation circuits to keep a steady DC voltage against incoming AC variations.
The 1N4114 employs a materials with a narrow band-gap, featuring lower reverse voltages than standard silicon-based diodes. This gives them a threshold voltage near a specified breakdown voltage, allowing an easily controllable and precise formation of Zener single diodes for a specific purpose.
