Diodes are essential components in most electronics, allowing the flow of current in only one direction. A Zener diode is a very special kind of diode which allows the current to flow in both directions, when it is operated above its Zener voltage. The 1N6337 is a single, 400 mW Zener diode designed to operate in this manner.

Working Principle

The 1N6337 diode works as a voltage regulator by allowing current to flow in both forward and reverse directions in order to maintain a desired voltage value. When operating with a forward-biased voltage, the diode will act as an open circuit up until the Reverse Breakdown voltage (Vz). When the reverse voltage is below the Zener voltage, current cannot flow through the diode. However, once the reverse bias voltage is greater than the Vz, the diode begins to conduct current in the reverse direction. This will cause a voltage drop across the diode, and the diode will begin to act as a resistor, allowing current to flow across it at a constant voltage determined by the Zener voltage.
