Working Principle of 1N6363

The avalanche breakdown phenomenon occurs when a high electric field creates enough energy to cause some of the electrons to break away from their atomic bonds, resulting in a large carrier generation which improves the current flow. Consequently, the avalanche breakdown voltage can be lowered considerably by increasing the applied voltage, which reduces the value of the voltage drop across the diode. Furthermore, the occurrence of avalanche breakdown ensures that the voltage across the diode remains low when the applied voltage surpasses the avalanche breakdown voltage.
