TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor Diode) diodes are simply specialized diodes that are designed and utilized to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes. The 1N6368 diode is most frequently used for the purpose of protecting a variety of electronic and optical components/devices from any potential damage caused by transient voltage occurrences. This application is possible thanks to its breakdown voltage of 360 V, and package type of DO-41.

A TVS diode’s operation is based on the principle of doping, where a particular material is chosen to induce a change in its characteristics. The material used for this purpose in the 1N6368 diode is silicon, which is a major component in the manufacture of electronic components. By doping the silicon in the 1N6368 diode with certain elements, such as boron, it can drastically reduce the capacitance of the diode when voltage is applied. This reduces the chances of any electrical spikes affecting the protected components, and significantly reduces any potential damage.

Its peak forward voltage rating is between 9 and 11 V, and its maximum working ambient temperature is 125 degrees Celsius. On top of that, the maximum working operating range of 1N6368 diode is up to 500 volts AC, which makes it an ideal choice for protecting devices that are required to have high voltage compatibility.
