The 1N6377G is a popular TVS diode in particular, offering enhanced over-voltage protection for sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, peripherals, and other circuitry with low voltage.
The 1N6377G provides a dynamic, bidirectional voltage protection of up to −47V and +270V. Additionally, when combined with a 500Ω resistor it provides a common-mode, transient, impulse voltage protection of up to +320V peak. It is designed to be fast acting, with a maximum response time of less than 1 μs, ensuring that it can react and protect when a surge occurs. The diode also provides complete ESD protection, with its built-in opencircuit and short-circuit protection capabilities.
The 1N6377G TVS diode’s shield (GND) pin requires a connection to ensure proper operation. When connected to the GND pin, the diode creates a current loop that absorbs the transient energy and clips off excessive voltage. This helps to protect the system from the high voltage spikes and surges.
