Gas Discharge Tube Surge Arresters (GDTs) are surge protection devices used to protect electrical circuits from transient overvoltage surges. They are designed to provide protection against overvoltage transients caused by lightning strikes, electrostatic discharges, and other transient overvoltages. They work by diverting electrical energy away from the protected circuit, allowing the transient surge to be dissipated in a controlled manner.
