Working Principle

A DC fan is essentially a motor with fixed wings or blades attached to it. It works on the principles of electromagnetic induction, wherein an electric current flowing through a conductor results in a magnetic field, which in turn interacts with the magnetic field of the motor. This interaction creates a force that rotates the fan blades, thereby creating air movement.

DC fans make use of magnetic brushes to reduce noise and friction while creating air circulation. The brushes consist of two sets of carbon brushes that move against the fan\'s commutator portions as the fan spins. As the brushes move against the commutator, they cause electric energy from the motor to be converted into mechanical energy. This conversion creates a switch-like effect, resulting in more efficient operation of the fan.

As the fan spins, it produces a pressure difference that helps create air movement. The pressure difference is created when the fan blades rotate inside an enclosure. As the fan rotates, some air is pushed outwards from the back of the fan and some air is drawn into the fan from the front, resulting in the airflow created by the fan.
