24AA01-I/ST Application Field and Working Principle

The 24AA01-I/ST is a family of low voltage CMOS serial Electrically Erasable Programs Memory (EEPROM), which is suitable for wide variety of applications that require frequent write operations. The family consists of one member; 24AA01-I/ST. The 24AA01-I/ST is a 1Kbit Serial EEPROM, which is designed for simple two-wire I2C compatible interfaces.

The 24AA01-I/ST is ideal for applications where frequent write/rewrite to data storage are required. It is suitable for applications such as address book, contacts list and employee lists etc. and also for a variety of application fields such as computer peripheral and consumer electronic industries, for storage of non-volatile, user-programmable data.

24AA01-I/ST Working Principle

The 24AA01-I/ST is programmed using the I2C compatible protocol by writing/reading the data via the 2-wire Serial Interface – SDA (Serial Data Input/Output line) and SCL(Serial Clock Input line). For reading, the user must first enter the address of the byte of the memory array to read. Once the address has been selected and the Read operation has been selected, the 24AA01-I/ST will send back the data on the SDA line through the SCL line.

For writing, the user must first enter the address of the byte of the memory array to write. Then the data must be written to the 8-byte write buffer. The Page Write starts from the selected address and write the data from the write buffer to the 8-byte memory. After the Page Write cycle is complete, the data is written to the memory.

The 24AA01-I/ST provides error checking to ensure the proper writing of the data. It monitors either the 8-bits written or the number of bits written and performs write cycle only if all 8-bits are written correctly.
