Working Principle

The 24AA128-I/P is basically a 256K bit (128KByte) electrically erasable programmable memory. It is internally organized into 16 pages, each page with 256 bytes of data. The device uses the same I2C interface from which it is constructed. The I2C interface uses the Serial Data line (SDA) and the Serial Clock line (SCL) for data transmission, as indicated in Figure 1 below.

As can be seen in the figure, the 24AA128-I/P provides an enable (E) pin, which is used to enable and disable the I2C serial Interface. When the enable pin is set in logic high, the I2C serial interface is disabled.

The 24AA128-I/P uses two types of instructions to store/read/erase data - the Write instruction and the Read instruction. During the Write instruction, data is written to the memory. The number of bytes of data which can be written at a time is specified in the instruction. During the Read instruction, data is read from the memory. The number of bytes of data which can be read at a time is also specified in the instruction. Additionally, the 24AA128-I/P also has an Erase instruction, which can be used to erase the entire memory in one operation.
