Working Principle

The 24AA256-I/P integrates 16K x 8 of Serial EEPROM as a single chip solution. It is widely used for its small size, low power consumption and few pins. The control logic and interface circuitry are integrated on-chip making it a true two-wire device. It has an I2C compatible two-wire serial interface which supports an internally timed write cycle. This two-wire interface can be used to access the device chosen among 8 different addresses, allowing up to 8 devices to coexist on the same two-wire bus.

The 24AA256-I/P is designed to have severe Data retention and Endurance ratings, with the data retention voltage limit being 1.2V with reads being valid down to 1.1V and Endurance of up to 100K write cycles. The chip has a write protection feature which makes it possible to protect the data against inadvertent writes.

The device is also immune to latch-up and supports the Extended Refresh cycles in order to guarantee data retention. It is also Internally Timed and provides the Self-Timed Write Cycle, allowing the user to initiate a write cycle and then monitor the RDY/BSY pin to determine when the write cycle is complete. This device also supports a Page Write mode which can be used to write up to 64 bytes of data in one write cycle.

The 24AA256-I/P also supports the T2 (Timing 2) mode which allows the user to complete write cycles in less than the normal write cycle time. This mode is designed for applications which require quick response time and minimal write time.
