Working Principle
The 24AA32AFT-I/ST device is organized as a single block of 32k bits divided into 64 pages of 32 bytes each. The word address is set from 1 to 32 and the page addressing mode is used to read and write data. The device can be selected by setting the Chip Select (CS#) line Low. Data can be read or written with a 2-wire serial interface. The interface consists of serial clock (SCL), serial data (SDA) and Chip Select (CS#) signals. The interaction between master and slave is initiated by the master and can be in read or write modes.
In write mode, data is written with the Send and Receive (SR) command. The master sends the Write Enable (WREN) command followed by the Send and Receive (SR) command. The master then issues the address and data to the slave. The write operations are completed when the master receives an acknowledge from the slave (ACK) and the write operation is complete when the master sends the Acknowledge (ACK) for the address. The slave then transmits data to the master.
In read mode, data is read by sending the Read (RD) command followed by the address. The master then issues an acknowledge and the slave transmits the requested data. The read operation is completed when the master sends an Acknowledge (ACK) for the address. The slave then transmits data to the master. Once the read operation is complete, the master can issue another Read (RD) command or transmit the data.
The 24AA32AFT-I/ST also has a Write Protect (WP#) feature which can be used to protect stored data from unintentional modification. This feature can be asserted either by software or hardware and can be set individually for each page. When the Write Protect (WP#) is asserted, all write operations to the protected area are inhibited. If a write operation is attempted, the write operation will be terminated and the write protection remains in effect until it is disabled.
