Introduction

Microchip Technology\'s 24FC64FT-I/OT family of products are 64K-, 256K-, and 512K-bit serial I2C buses EEPROM devices. All devices feature low-voltage and standard-voltage operation, wide voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V, and are optimized for use in consumer, industrial, medical, IOT, automotive, and other consumer-based applications requiring non-volatile memory.

It is the ideal solution for interfacing the microcontroller or external logic to an I2C compatible host. The 24FC64FT-I/OT family offers 100K write/erase cycle endurance and offers enhanced data and code protection through its in-built protection and security: error indicating, write-protect and erase-protect. The 24FC64FT-I/OT also includes fast write and program times, superior tolerance to temperature, supply voltage and data retention while offering very low current consumption.

Working Principle

The 24FC64FT-I/OT family operates with a single supply voltage from 1.8V to 5.5V , and the core I2C bus protocol (“I2C bus-compatible devices”) is used for flash memory access or for connection to an external microcontroller or logic. It also supports a programmable data rate up to 1 MHz and features a powerful Buffer Management System that can be used to manage data from an external source.

Data write and erase operations are performed using a single-instruction write command. The write command is followed by up to 4096 bytes of data that is written to the Flash. Read operations require two instructions; the read-opcode followed by the address at which to start the read. An additional “write-protect, erase-protect and Error Indication” function can be enabled to provide further data and code protection.

The 24FC64FT-I/OT family also provides a power-down feature which allows an external microcontroller to control the device’s power while minimizing standby current.
