Working Principle

The working principle of the 25BR22-B-1-16F encoder is built upon a combination of two precision optical incremental encoders, mounted back-to-back. This allows the two sets of optical reflectors to precisely measure incremental position, both as relative and absolute values. The encoder includes a central tracking bar with an Home Index Scale, which effectively acts as the absolute reference. The encoder then converts each incremental rotational movement, into absolute coded coordinates.

The 25BR22-B-1-16F is an absolute encoder and uses absolute measurement to determine position in relation to a pre-defined origin point. As the encoder is powered on, it always returns to a previous position when power is reapplied, ensuring accuracy of the current position. Whilst the Home Index Scale provides the encoder with a reference point, the encoder is also provided with two sets of reflective optoelectronics, one for each direction of movement. The optical Incremental encoders provide reference signals for position control, velocity feedback and home synchronization.

By combining the two optical incremental encoders with an absolute position sensing device, the 25BR22-B-1-16F can generate an absolute, bidirectional signal that is appropriate for motion monitoring and recording applications.
