LED Dot Matrix displays consist of numerous individual LEDs that are assembled into a specific shape and size matrix, usually rectangular. The most common size is that of 2x2, consisting of four individual LEDs. A larger matrix allows for more dots of light to be placed within the same space, so increasing the resolution of a design. LEDs can be arranged in various shapes and sizes, including clusters, which further allows for the display of more complex images.

In the case of the 2974 model, the individual LEDs have been specially designed to be placed in a dot matrix to create an extended, dynamic display. This unique design allows for a full-featured graphic interface along with numeric, text, and animation capabilities. To ensure that the text and image are clearly visible, the LEDs are arranged in a network of 16 rows and 94 columns, which makes it possible to display both fast-moving images and detailed text.

The 2974’s working principle is based on the 0/1 logic system. This system is responsible for converting the current integer value of the voltages into an output. Depending on whether the voltage has a 1 or a 0 value, the electricity will either flow through the LED or not. Hence, the display is determined by the quantity of electricity that is allowed to flow through the LEDs.

In the case of the 2974, a Grid Driver Controller board is required to supply the voltage to the LED matrix. The GDC also processes the graphical information that is fed to the matrix, such as vector graphics, text, and images. The overall display is achieved by the LED’s bright red light that is emitted when voltage is supplied to the LED clusters.

The 2974 LED dot matrix and cluster application field can be divided in two major types. The first type refers to those applications that display simple text and numeric values. This could include digital signage boards, store displays, customer service desk displays, control panels, instrument panels, or navigation displays. The second type refers to those applications that require a more complex graphical interface, such as those which may simulate a map, show an animation, or convey more detailed information. Such applications include but are not limited to, medical equipment displays, gaming machines, gaming consoles, and more.
