Terminal Blocks - Din Rail, Channel

Terminal blocks are often used in electrical engineering and electronic engineering in order to connect two or more electrical conductors (or terminal points) in an organized, physically secure, and electrically insulated fashion. The most common type of terminal block is the DIN rail terminal block, which is used in industrial, residential, and commercial settings. This type of terminal block is designed to mount on a Standard 35 mm Thompson Plate System (TPS) configured DIN rail and is intended for both single-wire and multi-wire applications.

Types of DIN Rail Terminal Blocks

The two types of DIN Rail Terminal Blocks used in industrial, residential, and commercial settings are the UL listed 90 degree terminal blocks and the UL listed channel terminal blocks. The UL listed 90 degree terminal blocks are designed with a fixed 90 degree angle between the two mounting bases. UL listed channel terminal blocks are designed with two flat surfaces and are configured in a channel pattern, allowing for easy access to the wiring terminals.

Working Principle

The DIN Rail Terminal Blocks operate using a “fixed-pressure” design. This design consists of metal plates and springs, which press both the terminals and wiring against each other and secure the connection. The spring operation of the terminal blocks ensures that sufficient contact pressure is always present and that all wiring connections are completely and securely insulated.

Industrial and Commercial Applications

The UL listed DIN rail terminal blocks are ideal for industrial and commercial applications, due to their wide variety of uses and their ability to withstand harsh conditions. These terminal blocks can be used to make connections in both single-wire and multi-wire systems, as well as for cable and power distribution in medium to high voltage control systems. They can be used in environments with high temperatures and harsh chemicals, such as oil & gas refineries and hazardous area applications. They are also extremely reliable and have a high tolerance for vibration and shock.

Residential Applications

UL listed DIN Rail terminal blocks are also suitable for residential applications. They can be used to make connections in both single-wire and multi-wire systems, as well as for cable and power distribution in medium to low voltage control systems. To make things easier to install the DIN rail, base plate terminals can be supplied with a plug. The use of DIN rail terminals in residential applications can reduce the cost of installation and complexity.
