305PHC400K Application Field and Working Principle
Film capacitors are wide band pass non-polarized electrolytic capacitor with precise dielectric properties for electrical energy storage and pulse transmission. The 305PHC400K is a type of film capacitor specifically suited for the audio frequency voltage-coupled applications, such as in audio systems, car audio systems, recording systems, radio and computer applications.
The 305PHC400K is designed particularly to meet the demands of audio frequency voltage-coupling between components. The capacitor is usually combined with resistors to form circuits for power transfer, frequency control, and level control. This reduces the ripple noise in the audio signal and improves the audio fidelity.
The 305PHC400K is composed of a self-healing polyester film, along with polypropylene and polystyrene films. The polyester film acts as the dielectric while the other films serve as the electrodes of the capacitor, with polypropylene film being used as the positive electrode and polystyrene being used as the negative electrode. The advantage of using polystyrene and polypropylene is that they are much more stable than other materials at higher temperatures, making these capacitors reliable in harsh and high temp environments.
The operating temperature of the 305PHC400K is -35 to +75 C, with a maximum of 80 C and a cap’s rated life is usually about 2000 hours at a temperature of +70 C. The capacitor also has insulation resistance of up to 3G Ohm, good DC- and AC- voltage stability, and a low dissipation factor for high and low frequencies.
The working principle of the 305PHC400K is relatively simple. When AC current passes through the capacitor, the current transfers electrical energy from the source to the load by inducing a voltage between the two film electrodes, without any physical current flowing between them. The amount of electrical energy stored and released can be regulated by the capacitance value and time constant of the circuit.
As a result, the 305PHC400K can be used in many different applications to regulate the electrical current. For example, it can be used in power supplies for regulating ripple noise, in AC circuits for regulating voltage, and in audio systems for level control and noise reduction. With its high-performance features, the 305PHC400K is an ideal capacitor for use in audio frequency voltage-coupled applications.
