Incandescents
Incandescents are among the oldest types of lamps that have been in use over the centuries. Their purpose is to convert electrical energy into light and heat. Neons
Neon lamps create light by using a physical phenomenon called gas discharge. In this case, electricity is passed through an enclosed glass bulb containing a gas, such as neon, argon or krypton. When the electricity passes through the gas, it causes the gas to break down into atoms. This breakdown results in the emission of light. The light produced by neon lamps is usually in the form of a single wavelength of light, which is why it is used primarily for decorative purposes. The efficiency of these lamps is very high (around 90%), making them a good choice for decorative lighting.
Fluorescents
Fluorescents lamps are among the most common light sources today, and are used in a wide variety of applications. They function by passing electricity through an enclosed glass tube filled with an inert gas. When the electricity passes through the gas, it excites the molecules, causing them to emit ultraviolet radiation. This radiation then strikes a phosphor coating inside the bulb, which produces visible light. Fluorescents are highly efficient, usually up to 80%, and produce a very high amount of light for the power consumed. They are also readily available in different colours, making them suitable for a variety of applications.
