The terminal is an injection-molded, two-piece assembly with a pre-formed end, which provides a strong mechanical and electrical connection between the wire and the board. The terminal is secured in the housing by the plunger pins, which are raised into the slots, compressing the terminal retainer clips. The insert rings are then inserted into the housing and secured in place with a latch.

The 3240-18-00 has two mounting styles - an optional end-mount, which locks the connector into the printed circuit board, and a traditional through-mount, which allows the connector to be installed into a through-hole in the circuit board.
