The 3N249-E4/72 is a high reliability and voltage type of bridge rectifier featuring two common anode and two common cathodes and is encapsulated in a molded plastic case. This bridge rectifier offers a low leakage current, surge overload capability and it is engineered to enhance heat dissipation to minimize casing temperature. With a maximum repetitive peak reverse voltage of 1000V, it has a maximum forward surge current rating of 30A, and a maximum average forward voltage drop of 0.83V at 20A.
Application Field
The 3N249-E4/72 bridge rectifier is used for general, low power applications and for moderate to high speed switching applications, such as voltage stabilization, detection, triggering and relay control. Its ability to bridge AC, DC or PWM outputs make it a suitable device for wide variety of applications. Examples of applications in which this bridge rectifier finds use include audio power amplifiers, voltage divider networks, motor drives, air conditioners, and automotive battery chargers. It is typically used in applications where high efficiency, performance reliability and cost are important.
Working Principle
The 3N249-E4/72 is an excellent rectifier device, built at a standard bridge package. A bridge rectifier consists of four diodes connected to a bridge configuration, which is used to convert the an AC voltage to a DC voltage. Basically, the positive and negative terminals of a DC power supply are connected to the diagonally opposite points of the bridge, and the AC voltage is connected between the remaining two points of the bridge.
The four diodes within the bridge rectifier are configured to create a full-wave input voltage signal, which is opposed-in-phase to the input voltage signal. The diodes only allow current flowing from one of the opposing branches to flow, this ensures that the output DC voltage is always positive. The diagonally opposed pairs of diodes allow for the DC current to alternate between the two branches of the bridge.
The rectifier utilizes two anodes and two cathodes, which when added up to conduction paths form a closed circuit. The switching of the anodes and cathodes alternately form the direct and inverse pairs of the bridge rectifier circuit. The bridge rectifier can be used to either rectify a single-phase or a three-phase AC voltage. The bridge rectifier can output a maximum of double the AC voltage.
