41-01086 Application Field and Working Principle

Circular cable assemblies, commonly referred to in the industry as connectors, are used to connect one part of a system to another. The 41-01086 is specifically designed for assembly in tight places and has a field assembly capability of high wire flexibility and strain relief. This makes it ideal for tight-fitting areas such as in medical devices and electronic devices.

The construction of the 41-01086 connector uses semi-rigid coaxial cable and is constructed of a contact, an insulating body, and an overall shield. The contact is made of a stamped and formed metal part featuring an unlatched, self-wiping design. This design provides a tight fit that improves contact reliability and prevents arcing that can lead to interference or shorting out of other components.

The body of the 41-01086 connector is constructed from an elastomer material and features a snap on the outside to secure the contact and a metal-to-metal seal around the outside. The overall shield is a soldered, pre-molded piece of material that provides EMI/RFI protection to the sealed area.

When assembled, the contact is pushed through the insulating body and then into the metal shield. The contact makes electrical contact with the inside of the shield and the shield is then soldered to the contact. The elastomer insulating body is then pushed over the contact and the metal-to-metal seal is held in place with the snap. By compressing the contact and the outer shield, a secure and reliable connection is formed.
