<p>Resistor Networks, Arrays play an important role in implementing various applications in electronic system designs. A typical example of a resistor network is the 4114R-1-104, a 4-terminal resistor network consisting of a combination of four standard resistor elements. </p> <p>In particular, the 4114R-1-104’s application field includes those applications which require an array of resistors with closely-matched values, such as in mixed analog and digital signal processing, filtering, pre-distortion compensation, equalization, waveform synthesis, speech recognition, and noise suppression.</p> <p>The 4114R-1-104 consists of two pieces of metal film resistors and two pieces of carbon film resistors that are connected in series. The two resistors in series form one branch, and the other two connected in parallel form the other one. The value of the overall resistance is determined by the combination of the two branches; the resistance of each branch will be 1/2 of the whole resistance when the value of two resistors in each branch are the same. </p> <p>As a most common type of resistor, the 4-terminal chip resistor has four terminals, three of which are connected with each other to form a branch. The fourth terminal, or the center terminal, is used as the grounding terminal. This structure enables the chip resistor to have a greater power rating than the conventional chip resistors, which can reach up to 0.25W–25W.</p><p>The 4-terminal configuration also improves the accuracy of the resistance value when compared to the conventional chip resistors. The 4114R-1-104 has an accuracy of 1%. This improved accuracy is due to the fact that the terminals are situated in the most precise point on the resistor chip, thus implementing a more consistent resistance than that of a conventional chip resistor.</p><p>The working principle of the 4114R-1-104 is very simple and quite similar to other resistor networks. Its main purpose is to limit the flow of current through a circuit, thus resulting in a voltage drop across it. The voltage drop is determined by the resistance value of the resistor. The combination of resistors in each branch will affect the overall resistance value of the 4114R-1-104.</p><p>When the two resistors in each branch have the same value, the overall resistance will be twice the value of a single resistor. The current is divided equally between the two branches, thus resulting in a lower current flow and a larger drop in voltage.</p><p>The 4114R-1-104 is particularly suitable for use in applications which require high accuracy and close matching of the resistance values. The combination of metal film and carbon film resistors in the 4114R-1-104 ensures both a high accuracy and a wide range of resistance values. It can also be used for applications which require higher power handling capabilities as its resistors are capable of enduring up to 0.25W–25W.</p><p>In conclusion, the 4114R-1-104 is a reliable resistor network with multiple applications, such as in mixed analog and digital signal processing, filtering, pre-distortion compensation, equalization, waveform synthesis, speech recognition, and noise suppression.
