Introduction

41620 Application Field

The 41620 RF power dividers/splitters are used in a variety of communications, power, and measurement applications. These compact, low-cost devices offer superior RF performance as compared with resistive splitter networks and can be employed in wireless local area networks (WLANs), fiber optic systems, satellite and terrestrial communications systems, cellular base stations, and other RF devices.They are also used for power-splitting applications such as a catenary line load-sharing system, multiple-receiver antennas, and monitoring systems.

Working Principle

RF power dividers/splitters use a technique called “balanced power division” to divide power from a single source into multiple, equal output lines. The device consists of a single RF input port which is connected to two output ports, with a third port (referred to as ‘isolator’, ‘diverter’, or ‘dummy load’) connected to a terminator or a resistor to absorb power.The connected ‘isolator’ portion absorbs the power that is not divided between the two output ports, thus ensuring that equal amounts of power are divided evenly into each port. This technique is often employed in active splitters that use amplifiers to provide gain in addition to power division.
