Single Conductor Cables (Hook-Up Wire)

44/0414-26-7CS470 single conductor cables, commonly referred to as hook-up wire, derived its name from its primary purpose: connecting co-operating systems for electrical circuits. This single conductor wire is also known as thermoplastic and thermoplastic-insulated wire, or electric wire. This multi-purpose cable is fine stranded, and highly resistant to heat, water, oil, chemical exposure, and abrasion.

Due to its versatility, hook-up wires can be found in a variety of consumer and commercial electronic and electrical applications, including but not limited to instrumentation and computer systems, video and audio equipment, medical electronics, ships, aircrafts, and homes, such as wiring a range or dishwasher. The cable generally operates from -65°C to 200°C, exhibits low weight, high insulation resistance, and low dielectric loss.

Applications

Hook-up wire can be used in different applications with different insulation materials for each purpose. The most commonly used materials are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE). Working Principle

Hook-up wire is used to connect electrical components together. A conductor is at the core of the cable and is usually copper or aluminum.
