The 4420.0173 is a molded case circuit breaker designed to offer a cost-effective solution for medium voltage AC applications.This three-pole circuit breaker features an adjustable instantaneous trip setting, a manual trip release and a thermal-magnetic tripping system to provide high levels of safety. The 4420.0173 is rated for a voltage up to 5,000 volts and is UL listed for use with cable, conduit and other specified applications.In electrical systems, circuit breakers are placed in series in order to protect the circuit from overcurrents and short circuits. When the current flowing through the conductors reaches the circuit breaker’s Rated Continuous Current (RCC) rating, the breaker trips and opens the circuit, preventing further damage.In addition to its thermal-magnetic tripping system, the 4420.0173 features an adjustable instantaneous trip setting which allows the user to set a higher current threshold at which the breaker will trip, providing additional protection against damaging peak currents. The adjustable instantaneous trip setting is independent of the main trip curve, and can be adjusted based on application requirements.The 4420.0173 is designed with a built-in manual trip release handle, which allows the user to easily and safely open the circuit breaker in the event of a short circuit or other fault condition. This handle can also be locked in the open position to help prevent accidental activation.The 4420.0173 circuit breaker also utilizes an advanced arc quenching technology which provides increased protection against electrical arcs and flashovers in the event of a fault. This arc quenching technology helps to ensure that any arcing or sparking that occurs during a fault is rapidly extinguished, minimizing the possibility of collateral damage.Overall, the 4420.0173 circuit breaker is a reliable and cost-effective solution for medium voltage AC applications. It features a thermal-magnetic tripping system and an adjustable instantaneous trip setting which can be adjusted based on application requirements.
