Application Field

Rectangular connectors are typically connectors used for mating or joining two or more circuits. This type of connector is used in a variety of applications, including telecommunications, automotive, industrial, computer, data communication, and consumer electronics, and often used on PCBs or motherboards. The application fields of rectangular connectors vary depending on their type – Edge Type, Mezzanine (Board to Board) and Arrays.

The product is usually wired through the tailstock, which can be connected to the PCB by soldering or crimping. Working Principle

Generally speaking, the working principle of all types of rectangular connectors is the same. The key components of a rectangular connector are the terminals (aka contacts), which provide the link between the connector and the electrical circuit. The terminals are usually either male or female, depending on the type of connector. The female terminals, or sockets, are designed to fit the male terminals securely, allowing for a reliable connection.

However, there are subtle differences with the working principles between Edge Type, Mezzanine (Board to Board) and Array connectors. Edge Type connectors use a tongue-and-groove, keyed locking mechanism or bayonet system, while Mezzanine (Board to Board) connectors use a screw-in design with mechanical latching. Array connectors, on the other hand, use a conductive spring element as the contact.
